Migration guide

Migrate from Tally to Finexo Books

A practical cutover checklist for Indian businesses moving day-to-day GST accounting from Tally to Finexo Books — without pretending every historical voucher must come across.

  1. 1. Decide your cutover date

Most businesses cut over at the start of a financial year or a quarter. Keep Tally as a read-only archive for prior periods instead of forcing every historical voucher across.

  2. 2. Export masters from Tally

Prepare ledgers, parties, stock items (if used), and GST details. Clean duplicates and inactive parties before import — migration amplifies messy masters.

  3. 3. Set opening balances in Finexo Books

Bring opening trial balance / party balances into Finexo Books as of the cutover date. Confirm GST ledgers and tax accounts map cleanly.

  4. 4. Parallel-run a short period (optional but wise)

For 2–4 weeks, compare a sample of invoices, receipts, and GST totals between Tally and Finexo Books before you stop day-to-day Tally entry.

  5. 5. Train the team on the new daily loop

Invoicing, expenses, bank reconciliation, and GST review should have named owners. Cloud access means your CA can review without file-sharing chaos.

  6. 6. Keep Tally as archive

Retain Tally backups for old years. You rarely need full voucher history imported if opening balances and masters are correct.

FAQs

Do I need to import every old voucher?

Usually no. Importing years of detailed voucher history is slow and often unnecessary. A clean cutover with masters + opening balances is the practical path for most SMEs.

Will my CA still be able to work with me?

Yes — Finexo Books is cloud-based, so advisors can access books with permission. If your CA firm also needs practice operations (tasks, portals, reminders), look at Finexo PMS.
